I'm aware of many free antivirus programs including firewalls like ZoneAlarm and such. But I'm buying a laptop for my dad who isn't very tech-savvy so I need the most simple antivirus programs that he won't have to bother with all the time clicking accept or deny to things he doesn't recognize. So what are some that would just run in the background and take care of dear ol dad?
I am using Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware Version: 1.50.1 PRO Full version + ESET NOD32 Smart Security Full version.
Its best combination ,
the anti-malware blocks adware/spammin/malware sites plus scans your pc
Also Eset Nod 32 blocks all kinda trojans and viruses!!
It does not conflict each other.
I got it for free from the site below.

Well, my dad isn't so much a computer tech either. I installed a copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 and scheduled it to download afree antivirus programsnd install continuous updates and also run a scheduled full system scan once a week. I configured the auto-protect settings to where it automatically quarantines threats by itself so he can't click anything wrong. Pretty much install and forget. That's good for somebody who isn't real technical with computers.
This is perfect. It gets the most virus's, it's free, and you dont have to deal with those damn pop-ups telling you that you need to update. Whenever you feel like you might have a virus, you can just run a quick scan. Trust me on this, I don't mean to brag but I am kind of a computer techie guy and this works the best. I recommend this to all my family members and friends.
The ones I HATE are Avast, Norton, AVG, and McAfee. Stay away from these, especially Norton.
Use Microsoft Security Essentials, it is the best free anti-virus, light weight and also has the simplest interface. Im usingfree antivirus programs Microsoft Security Essentials since 2 years and never had a problem with it.
You can download it from the official microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx?mkt=en-us#dlbutton
If you want free then I recommend Avast , superantispyware and Malwarebytes. coupled with Comodo firewall They are all free for personal use . It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.
I recommend you Immunet Protect, Microsoft Security Essentials, Panda Cloud, Avira, AVG, Avast and Comodo Antivirus.
i have avast and it blocks lots of stuff like trojan horse viruses i like it its called avast
Use the one I install in every single one of my builds and been using for years without ANY infections. It's AVAST FREE:
