i want to try downloading the AVG anti virus since i've read that it's a good anti virus software, i tried downloading anti virus software before but it turned out to be a virus instead.
AVG is safe, as long as you download it from *their* site. as far as "any other free anti virus on the net" - you already know that answer - you already tried one that turned out to be a virus. Only d/l those that have been reviewed by mainstream publications, and have been out there more than 6 months.
But... The AVG Free Edition is not good... i suggest you to download Avira AntVir Premium

This guy was no dummy so I loaded it onto the brand new HP last year when I got it. These have been running successfully on both amchines for two years nad are the best, even compared to NORTON. I personally downloaded AVG anti virus and used it for a year. It seemed to work but not to my full satisfaction. Also, at the end of the year you have to buy it anyway. I also sort of remember reading in their download agreement info that your name is kept for future advertisers. AVG is based in Europe somewhere. I wasn't too happy about that, but like you, it was free and I was financially strapped at that time.
If you have to buy, I would recommend Zone Alarm Security (with anti-virus & spyware). This is a fabulous system and you only have one software that covers both virus security and spyware, automatically checks your email for "Junk Mail" and "Phishing Mail" and moves these to specific folders in your Inbox list. Very easy to update and work with.
On a final note, I just didn't feel that the AVG did the best job. What do you expect for a freebie, right? NOTE: Most freeby downloads seem to always have a spy atfree download avg anti virustached! Therefore, I have now realized it doesn't pay to get free software off the internet. Your computer will suffer eventually from that download. I know mine did!

Well you can if you have cusom firmware. There are many sites you can find just by using google. I googled free psp game downloads and used the 2nd one (sorry don't remember site). All you need to do is just rent the games or borrow them from a friend and copy them to your memory sticks.

intel download center downI'm embarrassed to ask this, but how much music can you download to your pc before it starts slowing it down?
I'm a novice at computers, when it comes to latest technologies, so please forgive me if this sounds stupid.
OK, I have a little less than 1G of RAM, desktop, Intel Celeron M 420 CPU @ 1.60GHz, (whatever that means), I use WIN XP and Real Player 10. I've put about 17 or 18 CD's on it, will this amount be ok? Is it ok to put any more this? If so, could you please give me some kind of guidelines to go by?
I currently have Google Earth (along with several add-ons) installed, about 4 spyware programs, 4 browsers, a couple news/temperature prog,. A couple TV players, 4-5 media center add-on's, and a couple screensavers I downloaded. And ofcourse my 17-18 CD's and anti-virus, but that's about it. Drive C: shows, (used 12.3GB), free space:165 GB, capacity:178GB.
There is no limit and no slow down (as long as you have enough open space left). You have plenty of disc storage left, and only need to watch it if you drop below about 10GB.
You may also want to add a second disc drive, and back up your data (music etc) on it, as you never know when a disc drive will go dead. Then it is too late to save your data. I back up all of my data every 2 weeks (over 30GB at this point) and have 4 disc drives in my tower (2 EIDE and 2 SATA).
I also have about 2,500 songs, and 38,000 pictures on therintel download center downe, emails for 12 years and about 35 DVD movies. NO slow down! ;-)

What you're storing on the computer really doesn't make it slow. You have plenty of Hard Drive space, so I wouldn't worry about it. Microsoft recommends keeping at least 15% free, and you are well above that. What slows down your machine is low RAM, and storing music doesn't affect RAM on your machine.
If you have 165G free, that's oh...like 100 more albums no sweat.

You click on the song you want, your Operating system retrieves only that 1 song you want from your hard drive and plays it.
Think of it like this: you read a book. You read at the same speed no matter what size the book is. However, your reading speed will start to deteriorate if you read more books at the same time. So if you're playing one song at a time, your performance will remain the same.

My friend recently got an MP4 player for Christmas, it's memory capacity read 4GB when he first started using it. After afew files became unusable, a reformat was necessary to wipe the memory. These programs operate the various software in your PC. The things you uninstall are trialware (free for like 30 days and then you pay). I would leave these alone.

you take the youtube out of the addressbar and replace it with voobys . for example: heres a random video from you tube: . to do this, you would replace the youtube and do it so to look like this: . press enter or go, and the window will appear allowing you to download the video. Right lick and save as or save target as, and save it to a location that you would know how to get to(I save to my desktop). Then you would download Super Converter (its free and about 25 megabytes) at and use the file to convert to an mp3 or wav or what ever. Also, dont forget to at a ".flv" to the downloaded video (without the quotes)
